scouring the registry to remove any reference to the Nikon software then trying a completely clean install (usual warnings about creating restore points / system back-up before tinkering with the registry)Īlso, once you've downloaded the install files, disconnect from the internet and disable any AV software before running the install.Īs an alternative, although It's not free, I've been getting very good results with Capture 1 It might be worth completely removing NXD, View NX, Picture Control etc.

My Windows 10 was an update from Windows 8 and I've installed and updated without any problem.

Nikon capture nx d for windows 10 64 Bit#

I've been running it on Win10 64 Bit without issue (other than the fact I can't stand win10 so tend to use my old Win 7 for almost everything.) Never the less, if there is a lack of compatibility with upgraded machines, that still doesn't make much sense, or at least shows a lack of effort from Nikon in supporting their own software. I've left a note to Nikon for clarification. My machine was originally a Win 8 machine upgraded to Win 10 when that came out. I wonder if the "pre-installed" thing is the hang-up. 64- and 32-bit editions supported (64-bit recommended) runs as a native 64-bit application on 64-bit systems."" I noticed this statement at the end of the compatibility list (that does include Win 10): I just went to the NXD support page and checked compatibility. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package." The error message is "This installation package could not be opened. I've been using PCs since the '80s and am pretty well versed. What happens when you try to install - does it just abort altogether, or do you get any sort of error message? And at the risk of stating the obvious, are you sure that you are not inadvertently trying to install the Mac version (the Win and Mac boxes are side by side and easily confused)Ĭarl-dania edited this topic 57 months ago. The 'explanation' provided by Nikon is totally and completely wrong.

My reasons for CNX-D are similar to your own. I am running CNX-D, CNX2 and VNX2 on Win 10 without problem. I didn't really believe the statement from the Nikon rep re: Win 10 support as it seemed illogical. On the Nikon Download site it says - Operating System - System RequirementsĪnd I have had no problem installing and running CNX2 on my machine. I have updated CNX-D several times with no problem. I am amazed and not amazed that Nikon can't find the time to update their software.who could imagine such a thing? -)Īnyway, has anyone out there found a workaround for running NXD on a Win 10 machine? "Thank you for contacting Nikon! Unfortunately, our NX-D software is only compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Vista. After failing to get NXD installed I send a message to Nikon support and got the following reply: Note: On July 15th, this link should be live to download the new NX-D software.I tried and tried to get NXD installed on my Win 10 machine, I've been thinking about buying a D500 and knew the new format NEF file would not be compatible with CNX2 and wanted a Nikon option for initial RAW processing. Unfortunately I don't see this new freedom lessening the requests I get to edit everyone's photos after the holidays. And the changes to the product should naturally be for the better.Īlas, now my family members can enjoy a perfectly useable professional photo editor for RAW files at no cost.

While I don't think that is absolutely necessary any longer, it is nice to know that a product that was probably priced above its value and real-world usefulness will now be a free perk available to everyone. In fact, there was a point at which I would even pull in all new photos and save them as DNGs within Capture NX-2 just to have a better "starting point" with my editing. While some have argued over the usefulness of Nikon's software, there was a point at which Lightroom's ability to render the colors in NEFs wasn't as good as it is today and simply didn't emulate Nikon's in-house processing that led to what you'd see on the back of your camera.

To be more specific, this is the full version of Nikon's software that will be going free, enabling full editing capabilities for Nikon's RAW NEF files (View NX has always been free to simply view NEF files).
